Spring is coming.....

Spring is coming, and for the first time ever I've decided to 'do' a little Spring display after admiring them on American blogs.

I didn't realise that I had so many rabbits until I had a look around.  The eggs (front right) are just a few of my collection...you just knew I'd have a collection of them!

The large jug they're in is Doulton, and the design registration mark dates the pattern to 1902. It would have been part of a wash stand set, I got that last year from a charity shop for £10.

I love the little eggs hanging from the (silk) blossom branches don't you?

I tried a slightly different display - rooster had to get in on this one!

But did I buy any of this?

Errr, no!  But I did buy this....

A Merrythoughts Mohair 12" Limited Edition Celebrity Chef Bear

Complete with its original outer and inner boxes.  And all for the bargain price of £29!

So yes, I've really had a lovely day :o)

Infact, we all had a really lovely day...

My dear old teddy bear ..

When I was a little girl I had a beautiful teddy bear that I loved with all my heart, but I was a naughty little girl who liked the thought of becoming a hairdresser when I grew up. Teddy was so real to me that of course his fur needed trimming, so I can remember finding some scissors and snipping a bit off here and there, and ending up with a thread-bear :O(
(I really was a very naughty girl). He must have had something wrong with him as his fur never grew back again. Eventually poor teddy was forgotten and abandoned, bald, cold and shivering in an out building (sob). A long time later he was found again - but by this time his straw stuffing had become home to a family of mice. Sadly, he and the little family was sent away never to be seen again...I often wonder about dear old teddy and how badly I mistreated him. I also wonder if this is why I have so many now, all with a perfect fur coat, loved and looked after?

Do you think that I've made ammends yet?

(Paddington was a gift from my husband before we were married - so he's about 37 years old now. The beautiful Steiff ones were gifts over the years from either my husband or my daughter, but I have to admit that the Merrythoughts ones are my favourites as they are so like my original teddy, but I treasure them all).

I never did become a hairdresser either......

The story of the sad little elephant.....

I've already held up my hands - I'm a collector, the trouble is that I like so many things!
I have a small collection of Cloisonné items as shown below. Most are from charity shops, though they are few and far between - it has taken me about six or seven years to seek out these little beauties.



The latest one is actually imperfect..it's the little elephant with only one ear! I saw it, looking very lonesome on the shelf in the shop priced at £2, so I decided to give the poor soul a home. I know the ladies who work in the shop and happened to comment at the till that 'Only I would buy a one eared elephant' - this started a search in the sorting room and in the shop for the missing ear amidst much hilarity. Needless to say they didn't find it but they were good enough to reduce the price to £1.50
And here he is.....

It's such a beautiful day today that I've had to share the first sign of Spring in my garden...



As promised here's a view of some of 'the collections'.
This is a small part of my cobalt glass, perhaps a bit too bright as the sun is reflecting on to it.





And that's a snap of my (overloaded) dresser, this has a lot of family pieces on it. All used (on special occasions) and much loved.
I really do have an obsession with blue don't I?

Did I mention I love orchids? This is probably my favourite at the moment is a real stunner in full bloom, isn't it beautiful?

These also show some more detail of the linen cloth. I got some talking books for my Sister-in-Law, and a couple of books for me too as I'm an avid reader and often have two books 'on the go' at once.

It occurs to me that I must improve my photography skills (eek -well I'll TRY to any way!)

And I should also post some pictures of (part of) some of my collections. Well I'll get some prepared for my next addition to the Blog.

Some more goodies

I've been frantically reading blogs that interest me to 'see how it's done' and help me to make this more interesting.

I've also had some more charity shop goodies over the last week or so to add to my 'collections' - here are a few of them for you to peruse.

There's a lovely pale blue glass perfume bottle in really lovely condition which will find a home with it's friends on my dressing table (costing only £1). That is placed on the mirror tray ( which was £1.95) - now exactly why I'd like to double the amount of things on display is a mystery to me! But it took my fancy anyhow. In the background to the left is a Poole pottery sugar basin which was also £1, in my favourite 'Seagull' pattern - I really love the feel of the glaze, it's so smooth - very tactile. The centre back are four delightful porcelain shell dishes, which I feel will be lovely to serve either a prawn or scallop starter when friends are here for dinner. An absolute bargain at 30p each! To the right of them is a Rye Pottery dish with the word 'Runnymede' standing proudly through the glaze, as we know the place that the Magna Carta was signed. This was also £1, I've visited Rye Pottery on a few occasions whilst holidaying in East Sussex over the years but this is the first piece I've owned as it just took my fancy. The linen cloth that these items are on was also a charity shop find last year, it has really nice embroidery on it and I'm sure it was only a couple of pounds.
